On your first day at St Giles, our friendly staff will make you feel welcome and comfortable, and will place you in the appropriate class as soon as possible.
When you arrive at a St Giles college you will go directly into our orientation programme. This includes:
A placement test - to ensure you are in the right class for you |
An introduction to all the school's facilities and learning resources |
Information on the local area |
A welcome talk by the Principal of the school |
Once you begin classes, you will have many opportunities to influence the content of your courses, both on a day-to-day basis, and in regular counselling sessions with your teacher.

We have six levels of English, which are described below. The tests you will be asked to complete on your first day will help us to place you in the class best suited to your level. This continues to be regularly monitored and tested throughout your course, and class changes can be made at fortnightly intervals.

Pre-intermediate

All students will have regular opportunities to meet privately with their main teacher. In these sessions you will discuss your language progress to date and your language objectives for the course ahead. This one-to-one counselling session is just one of the opportunities open to you to influence the content of your course and ask your teacher about any other areas you would particularly like to cover in the coming weeks. We maintain a written record of these counselling sessions, which enables us to chart your progress over the duration of your course.

At the end of your course you can request certificates to provide you with a record of your achievement at St Giles. We offer students a choice between two end of course certificates:
The St Giles Certificate of Studies is awarded to students who complete any St Giles programme and records your finishing level of English (e.g. Upper-intermediate). |
The St Giles Certificate in English is awarded to students who successfully pass a written examination at one of our six levels. Your teacher will tell you more about these examinations during your course. |
