Centre Manager
St. Giles Junior Residential Courses
Southampton, 6th July - 17th August 2008

Outline

The Centre Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Summer Camp and will report to the line manager. The primary responsibility of the Centre Manager is to ensure that the day-to-day operation of the Centre runs smoothly, this includes overseeing the management of the academic programme, arrival and departure of students, the residence, the activity programme and the welfare and discipline of staff and students.
This position is a residential post.

Prospective applicants should have previous experience of management work within a summer camp environment.

The salary is £580 per week including board and lodging and a finishing bonus of £750. Holiday pay of 9.2% will be paid at the end of the contract.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

  

To ensure that all aspects of our course promised to our clients are met.

  

To organise and monitor the booking of transportation, appropriate venues and providers of social activities within budgets approved by the line manager.

  

To produce a weekly roster for all staff regarding the teaching and activity programme.

  

To produce and provide accounts relating to the Summer Camp.

  

To manage all financial affairs regarding the running of the Summer Camp and to produce and provide financial accounts to the line manager.

  

To liase with Head Office staff concerning the registration and airport transfer details of students and to arrange the proper arrival and departure of students in a safe and sufficient manner.

  

To organise the proper reception of new students and placement into appropriate bedrooms.

  

To deal with agents and parents on an informal basis, either in person or by telephone/email/fax.

  

To maintain all guidelines and regulations relating to the Care of Juniors as published by English UK and the British Council

  

To be responsible for the monitoring and appraisal of all staff hired, including the induction and training of staff, and the maintenance of staff discipline.

  

To report to the line manager any serious matter regarding the smooth running of the centre, and taking appropriate action in emergency, using the exercise of good judgement.

  

To ensure that Grievance and Disciplinary procedures as stated in issued contracts are adhered to.

  

To monitor and maintain the 24 hour emergency help line.

  

To check on the quality and appropriateness of the arrangements and services provided by the Universities used by the St. Giles Junior Summer Camps.

  

To establish a good working relationship with staff, agents, group leaders, university staff and any other persons involved with the Summer Camp.

  

To carry out any other duties that are necessary to maintain the smooth running of the Junior Courses.

St Giles Junior Summer Camps

In 2008 St. Giles International will be running British Council accredited Junior Residential Summer Camps, ages 10 to 18, at Kingston University (29th June - 24th August), The University of Reading (29th June - 17th August), The University of Nottingham (29th June - 10th August) and Southampton Solent University (6th July - 17th August).

We are currently recruiting the following: Residential Teachers and Non-Residential Teachers.

Residential Teachers

Main Duties and Working Hours
Teachers will teach twenty 50-minute lessons a week over 5 mornings. They will also be required to work additional hours per week supervising students in the residence, escorting students on excursions, participating in sports and activities and supervising students, as well as attending teachers’ meetings, teacher development sessions and the induction day. Staff will have one day off a week, normally a Sunday or a Thursday. The total working week is 48 hours.

Non-Residential Teachers

Main Duties and Working Hours
Teachers will teach twenty 50-minute lessons a week over 5 mornings. They may also take part in the activity programme at a standard pay rate when agreed with the Centre Manager. The standard is 20 hours and 20 minutes per week. Staff will have one or two days off a week as agreed with the Centre Manager.

Please note that when a centre has classes in the mornings and afternoons, teachers have the opportunity to have a full teaching programme with no supervisory duties.

Qualifications
Applicants should be: CELTA, Trinity TESOL or B.Ed (with languages) qualified teachers, other qualifications meeting British Council recognised junior course standards will also be considered. Experience of teaching juniors on a residential course would be beneficial but enthusiasm, motivation and being part of a team are just as important. We welcome teachers who are only available for shorter work periods starting at the end of June or the beginning of July.

Compensation:
St. Giles International pays competitive rates to all its members of staff. The residential packages include holiday pay and full board and lodging in a single room in the residence.

Non - residential teachers are paid the standard St. Giles lesson rate and additional payment is made for supervisory duties.

Weekly rates for basic contracts are:

Residential teachers; £268 per week plus board and lodging.

Non-residential teachers: £378.05 per week.

Increased salaries are also available to suitably qualified and experienced teachers and returnees. Teachers will be required to attend an induction day on the first day of their contract one day before work commences.

Experienced CELTA and DELTA Teacher Trainer

St Giles San Francisco requires a teacher trainer with responsibility for conducting intensive teacher training courses (CELTA and DELTA) leading to ESL/ EFL (English as a Second Language/English as a Foreign Language) teaching qualifications.

Sales & Marketing Co-ordinator

Our busy Corporate Head Office seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Sales & Marketing Co-ordinator to join our team. Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing a base of administrative support and back-up for the Sales and Marketing Department
  2. Maintaining our database of people and organisations who may be interested in sending students to the company
  3. Ensuring adequate supplies of promotional material retained in stock, and properly distributed overseas

St Giles Brazil

English Language Teachers

St Giles Brazil is now recruiting full-time teaching staff for one year contracts in both Sao Paulo and Campinas.

Minimum qualifications: University degree + EFL qualification (CELTA or Trinity Certificate) plus experience of working within a similar organisation

Preference will be given to applicants looking for longer stay positions, who would favour contract extension of between 1 - 2 years.

Preference will also be given to applicants interested in teacher training options.

Terms
 

Monthly salary Brazilian Reals$1,700 plus Reals$500 accommodation allowance.

 

Return air tkt paid in six monthly instalments upon completion of the initial 12 weeks trial period.

Working Hours
Full time teachers will be expected to teach or carry out other work in connection with the teaching timetable for a maximum of 30 hours per week Monday to Friday between 07.00 and 22.00 hours and Saturday between 09.00 and 13.00 hours. It should be understood that applicants will need to have a very flexible attitude towards their working hours. Most of the work tends to be in the morning for "breakfast classes" (07.00am - 10.00am), and afternoon/evening classes (14.00pm - 18.00pm). Therefore, it is quite common for teachers to alternate between these 2 "shifts", e.g. a teacher may be required to work in the morning, and then after a break return in the evening. Of the 30 hours, a maximum of 27 hours will be teaching and the remaining hours will be spent on administrative tasks, lesson preparation, marking homework, teachers' meetings, leading social programme events etc.

Holidays
Holidays include four weeks/20 workings days, not including statutory holidays.

Trial Period
Probationary period of employment is 12 weeks.
