Eastbourne is a popular coastal resort with a population of 80,000. It is known as one of the sunniest towns on the South Coast of England, and is 50 minutes by train from Gatwick Airport and 90 minutes by train from central London. It is a safe, affluent and peaceful location and is situated at the foot of the South Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The surrounding countryside contains many typical old English villages, country houses and splendid gardens. The town itself has a wide range of shopping, sporting and entertainment facilities.
St Giles College Eastbourne is housed in an elegant building in spacious grounds with a fine garden and a heated swimming pool. It is only 100 metres from the most attractive beaches in the town, and the famous white cliffs of Beachy Head are nearby. In addition, the lively town centre is just a ten-minute walk away. The College provides ample opportunity for independent study, with a choice of computer, video and language laboratory facilities. Students also have free e-mail and Internet access, and the well-stocked College library provides an area for quiet study and video-viewing facilities. The College canteen offers a range of hot and cold lunches, drinks and snacks, and opens out on to our beautiful gardens and outdoor heated swimming pool. St Giles Eastbourne has a dedicated team of experienced and qualified staff, and offers a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere with a serious attitude towards language learning. The College is accredited by the British Council and is a member of EnglishUK.
These courses are for a minimum of two weeks and are held in June, July and August. They are designed for mature learners who wish to refresh and update their English, explore British culture and the British way of life, and get to know one of the loveliest parts of England, all in an international group of students their own age.
There are 4 x 50-minute lessons each weekday morning in small, international classes at levels from Elementary to Advanced. The focus in the classroom is on improving communication in English, with an emphasis on developing speaking and listening skills for socialising and travel. Work is also done on vocabulary and grammar. A typical morning in the classroom will cover work on vocabulary, grammatical structures, listening and speaking skills, pronunciation and reading activities.
In addition, the course fee includes one full-day excursion for each complete weekend spent in Eastbourne. We are also able to give information and advice on other optional activities and excursions.
