St Giles is pleased to announce that we will be running a part-time DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) course from 4 September 2004 - 4 June 2005.
The Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults [DELTA] is administered and validated by the University of Cambridge (Cambridge ESOL). It is the most widely recognised qualification for English language teachers who already have experience of ELT and who wish to make ELT a career. The course covers theory and practice.
The course consists of:

These cover the six syllabus areas of:
1. Understanding, knowledge and awareness of language.
2. The background to teaching and learning English at adult level.
3. Resources and materials.
4. Working in the classroom.
5. Evaluation, monitoring and assessment.
6. Professional development.
These sessions will take place at St Giles Highgate on Saturday mornings.
2. Practical Teaching Assignments and Coursework
This involves lesson plans, observation and post lesson evaluation based on topics agreed with the tutors. There are a total of six Practical Teaching Assignments, one non-assessed, four internally assessed and one externally assessed. These will take place in the candidate's school.
3. Extended Written Assignment
In addition to the written work involved in the practical teaching assignments, there will also be an extended written assignment involving a case-study (4000 - 4500 words).
To obtain the Cambridge DELTA, candidates must:
1. Successfully complete both the written and practical components (the five Practical Teaching Assignments and the Written Assignments).
