This course is primarily for native English speakers. Non-native speakers must
have a very advanced level of English to be offered a place on this course.
Cambridge DELTA
The Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) is administered and validated by the University of Cambridge (Cambridge ESOL). It is the most widely recognised qualification for English language teachers who already have experience of ELT and who wish to make ELT a career. The course covers theory and practice.
Who is DELTA for?
The DELTA is designed as a higher level qualification for experienced language teachers. Candidates should:

Be aged 21 or over |

Have an initial ELT qualification (CELTA, Cert. TESOL or equivalent) and two years' subsequent full-time English language teaching experience |

Be involved in class teaching of EFL/ESOL |
| |
Be able to arrange to be observed at a minimum of two distinct levels |
| |
Be able to arrange to observe other experienced teachers (this can be arranged at St Giles if necessary). |

Practical Teaching Assignments and Coursework
This involves lesson plans, observation and post lesson evaluation based on
topics agreed with the tutors. There are a total of six Practical Teaching
Assignments, one non-assessed, four internally assessed and one externally assessed.
These will take place in the candidate's school.
Extended Written Assignment
In addition to the written work involved in the practical teaching assignments,
there will also be an extended written assignment involving a case-study of
4000 - 4500 words.
Assessment
To obtain the Cambridge DELTA, candidates must successfully complete both the written
and practical components (the five Practical Teaching Assignments and the Written
Assignments), and pass the written examination in June which consists of one 3½
hour paper.
