Useful Information

Welfare and Counselling

At every St Giles College there are members of staff available to help make sure that your time at St Giles is both useful and fun. You can discuss your course with your teachers, the Director of Studies or the Principal. If you are concerned about a personal matter, or about accommodation, the Welfare Officers based at each college are happy to help you during school hours. If you need urgent assistance outside of school hours, all centres offer a 24-hour emergency telephone number, providing help and assistance at all times.

Passports and visas

We can provide letters and certificates of acceptance to assist with visa applications where required. Our San Francisco centre is authorised under Federal Law to enrol non-immigration alien students.

Insurance and Personal Security

We strongly advise that you purchase travel insurance before you leave your home country. This should cover loss of and/or damage to your personal belongings, medical expenses in the event you are ill, and tuition fees in the event of an unexpected cancellation or curtailment of your course. We can offer you a very competitive insurance package for study in the UK, which can be booked at the same time as your course. Please contact us for further details.

St Giles recommends that students have health insurance while residing or travelling in the United States, and students should arrange for health coverage through an insurance provider in their home country. If health insurance is not available through a provider in a student's home country, short term health coverage through an American company can be arranged for periods of 14-180 days.

If you are unable to open your own bank account whilst you are studying (ie: if you are studying for less than 3 months), you may deposit money in our bank account for safe-keeping, or in the school safe.

Health

The Welfare Officer for each College will be able to help you to arrange appointments with doctors or dentists as necessary. If you are not a resident of the EU, or a country with a reciprocal Health arrangement with the UK, you may have to pay for treatment in Britain. All students requiring medical attention in San Francisco will have to pay for consultations and treatment.
